CSA Week No. 8, Meat to come next week‏

Hello everyone,
I hope all is well this week. We had quite a shower on Monday,
averaging around 4 inches for the day. The plants are well-watered,
the pond is up, and we are watching our first Winter cover crops
germinate. It also amazingly half way through the second session of
the CSA.

For all share-holders that gave me post-dated checks for September, I
just deposited them. Therefore, I will postpone the October 1
post-dated checks to October 20 and the November 1 post-dated checks
to November 20.

Be on the look-out for our final farm dinner this year to benefit
Community Farmers' Markets, our market organization that manages the
EAV and Grant Park Farmers markets. Partner chefs will include Rian
Tittle of the Brick Store Pub, Terry Koval of Wrecking Bar, and Eric
Ottensmeyer of Leon's Full Service. The tentative title for the
dinner is "Wild in the Streets." More details to come soon.

For meat share holders, my apologies for the sporadic distribution
this session. Even with the best planning, the meat share sometimes
gets delayed due to processing dates needing to be pushed off or just
poor communication on my part. I will work to keep us on track after
we beat this rough patch. Many thanks for your patience.

Our next meat share delivery, to come next week, will be whole,
pastured chickens from White Oak Pastures. These birds will be
distributed on October 10, one week later than planned. **Anyone can
order extra chickens by emailing the number of birds desired. We have
a limited number of extra birds. Whole chickens will be $15.00
each.** Each meat share will receive one whole bird with their share.
There was a great article in the AJC recently about our friends from
White Oak Pastures. Here is the link:

After the chicken meat delivery, we will receive our beef delivery
from Frolona Farm the following week, and then two weeks later we will
get our pork sausage and pork chops delivery from Evie's Country
Garden.

  1. Very interesting reading on meat shares and great info on your CSA program! I love getting my weekly share of fresh organic veggies and fruits here in Toronto. Apart from the garden and field produce I usually get some fresh eggs from happy hens as well as some dairy from local farmers. They deliver a box with your food and some recipes of the week, saving you the time and energy of figuring out what to get and what to cook.
